'I came
to coaching with six goals in mind. They were to improve my fitness and
health, to eat more healthily, to improve relationships with family and
friends, to enjoy life more and to feel more confident in my career.
Initially these seemed quite daunting tasks – they were all significant
areas in their own right and some of them were extremely important to me.
There is, of course, always some nervousness about confronting life issues
head on, and in some of these areas I felt as though I was struggling to
establish appropriate control.
In coaching I gained the confidence to tackle the
issues raised. During the sessions I was delighted to make progress on all six
goals. One of my goals was to develop a closer relationship with my son. By
talking through strategies as to how this might be achieved I was able to
settle on a plan with which I felt comfortable. I have begun making time to
meet him on his terms and this has worked particularly well.
The coaching process has been extremely effective
in allowing me to explore the issues and complications in seeking to move
towards my goals. I have been encouraged to make steps that are achievable and
these have inspired me to continue with the process. The sessions have been an
oasis of calm where I can reflect on what I would like to achieve and
celebrate the weekly successes I have made. Where I have relapsed or not been
as successful, Jo has been extremely supportive. Together we have considered
why this might be happening and what I would like to do about the situation.
As a consequence of the coaching I have been
undertaking more regular exercise – some of this shared with my family – and
have been more confident in my dealings with others, particularly in work. I
have been able to explore personal attributes and have been particularly
excited to discover things about myself which I did not previously recognise.
In particular, feedback from others on their perceptions of my strengths
provided some pleasant surprises and boosted my confidence.
I am grateful to Jo for the opportunity to
consider aspects of my life and to commit myself to my desired goals. In a
busy life it has been an excellent way of refocusing and establishing what my
priorities are. I greatly appreciate the help and support that Jo has given
me’.

‘I used coaching to concentrate on work-related
issues and the setting up of a new business. Before coaching, I had ideas and
notions of how my business would be but had not concentrated on any detailed
planning. Through coaching I gained a sense of clarity and perceptive insights
into what I was trying to achieve, what was important to me and why. I
outlined a business plan and spent time detailed time on creating an
appropriate logo that represented everything that I was trying to achieve.
Jo is an effective and supportive listener who
helps aid clarity and gain greater insights into my own thoughts and
behaviours’

‘I came to coaching with a variety of personal
issues, e.g. being overweight in my eyes, finding difficulty in ignoring
emotional blackmail, and not having thick enough skin. I felt disturbed by
these and felt they were holding me back from living my life as I wanted. From
the coaching I gained the insight that many of my feelings and beliefs were
really a lack of confidence in myself. I realised I had much to be confident
about and needed to concentrate on the positive aspects of my life.
The coaching process was very effective as it
helped me to see the way forward and also helped me to formulate ways of
overcoming my problems. It was totally non-confrontational and I felt at ease
with Jo, who was easy to talk to. I never once felt judged and she was very
reassuring as I started to see the way forward. One of my goals was to lose
weight – I succeeded – by 1½ stone in 2 months! I am generally feeling more
confident and have far more self-belief.
I learned that self-belief is so important and it
has helped me to be determined to succeed in the way I want my life to be, and
what I want to achieve’

'Jo has recently become my
life coach. An issue I had since my secondary school days was lacking in
confidence. We got behind the reason for this, worrying about what people
think of me, which is what I constantly did. Time Line Therapy allowed me
to think back to the first time I started worrying about what people think
of me. Visualising this moment and discussing my motivations behind this
allowed me to release emotions and start putting them behind me.
An interesting exercise I
did with Jo gave me real incentive to think about what I want to achieve
in life and how I can realistically achieve my goals. The results can only
be influenced my myself but life coaching has helped me understand how I
can achieve my goals and how I can become a more confident person and
hence, my ideal self'
